How to get a work permit for an Australian graduate student in the US
Students who are applying for a work visa or a student visa can be granted a work or student visa if they meet the requirements for either, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
But, the department said it is only required to issue a work passport for those with valid work and study permits, and it does not provide an option to obtain a student passport.
If a student or work permit holder is found to have not met the requirements, the government will revoke their work or study permit and deport them to their country of origin, DHS said in a statement.
The department’s announcement came as the Trump administration announced plans to slash the number of visas it will allow in the coming year, and the US government also announced plans for a temporary ban on the travel of nationals from six predominantly Muslim countries.

This means the number will be reduced to 51,000 by the end of the year, down from 67,000 in 2019.
